In Piatt County, Illinois by 1870 there were at least three families of the name, Wildman. Of particular interest is the family of Thomas P. Wildman & his wife Elizabeth. Thomas Wildman was born ca. 1834 in Ohio. They had at least eight children. My great-grandmother, Mary Luella Cain, was an orphan and was taken in by this family. She spent around five years in the household of Thomas P. Wildman.
