Would like to trade notes with researchers of the Rutherford family of Virginia. My ancestor was John Spearman Rutherford, born ca. 1775 in Virginia and died January 1849 in Shelby County, Indiana.

John Spearman Rutherford married Jane ? about 1793-1794 in Virginia, but the County of their marriage is not known. Jane Rutherford died about 1849, also in Shelby County, Indiana. This family was in Kentucky by 1800, possibly in Franklin County, Kentucky. By 1820 John Spearman Rutherford had moved his family to Gallatin County, Kentucky and remained until 1829 when they entered land in Shelby County, Indiana. They had eight known children:

• Mary Rutherford, born ca. 1795 in Virginia

• Clarissa Rutherford, born ca. 1797 in Virginia

• Robert Rutherford, born ca. 1799 in Virginia

• Micajah Rutherford, born ca. 1800 in Kentucky

• Sarah Rutherford, born ca. 1801 in Kentucky

• Sophia Rutherford, born ca. 1803/1807 in Kentucky

• Elizabeth Rutherford, born August 14, 1808 in Kentucky

• Susan Rutherford, born ca. 1810 in Kentucky

Their son, Micajah Rutherford, married Berilla Lansberry on January 2, 1820 in Gallatin County, Kentucky. Berilla died before 1840 in either Shelby or Decatur County, Indiana. Micajah remarried a widow, Sarah Cooper, on May 6, 1845 in Decatur County, Indiana. Micajah was living in Decatur County until his death sometime after the 1870 census. He had three known children from his first marriage:

• Robert Rutherford, born ca. 1829 in Indiana

• Lutitia Rutherford, born ca. 1831, possibly in Shelby County, Indiana

• Anderson Rutherford, born ca. 1832 in Shelby County, Indiana
