Martin Blomquist
I am a 1982 graduate of the University
of Arizona, at Tucson, Arizona. My background has been in Electronic News Gathering
and Film Production, with a period in Business Finance. In addition to film and video,
I have pursued actively Still Photography as an artistic outlet.
As a Commercial Director, I make 30 second commercial advertisements for products
or services. In addition, we produce long form projects such as documentaries, promotional
and instructional video programs. All image aquisition is made using the PANASONIC
DVCPRO format. Other formats I have used include SONY Betacam SP and DVCAM. All editing
is performed in our new digital non-linear post production facility in Farmington.
While I earn my living in Television, my other love is still photography. With
a minor in Film from the University of Arizona, I spent a good deal of time at the
Center for Creative Photography, the repository of original negatives by Ansel Adams
and Edward Weston. My own photographic style is still evolving since I seek subjects
ranging from individual people on the streets to vast landscapes.
The tools I use for my craft include the 35mm Leica or Pentax SLR, up to the
8x10 inch (18x24 cm) mahogany Wisner Technical Field, or the precision Swiss Sinar
Bron view cameras. The time involved in setup of a view camera is to my liking since
one takes the time to really get a feel for the location and atmosphere. I have been
known to setup and wait in one location three or more hours for the light to get
just right.
