There was a Nelson family which is first found in Burke or Bladen County, North Carolina. My ancestor was George Nelson, born ca. 1765-1771 in North Carolina.
By around 1795 George Nelson was living in Wilkinson County, Mississippi where he married Dillis Taylor, daughter of John Barney Taylor. Dillis was born about 1773. From this marriage were seven known children, the first three born in Wilkinson County, Mississippi, the remaining five born in Saint Landry Parish, Louisiana:
Fannye Nelson, born May 2, 1796
William T. Nelson, born February 16, 1798
George Nelson, born March 3, 1800
Serena Nelson, born ca. 1802
Gilbert Taylor Nelson, born ca. 1805
Charlotta Nelson, born December 10, 1808
Sarah Nelson, born March 3, 1809
George Nelson's wife, Dillis, died before 1811 and he remarried on August 26, 1811 to Elizabeth Sweat (born ca. 1793 in Burke County, North Carolina). They were married in Bayou Chicot, Saint Landry Parish, Louisiana. From this marriage were eight known children:
Aaron Burr Nelson, born November 6, 1815
Amos Moses Nelson, born ca. 1819
Sarah Nelson, born ca. 1820
Mary Ann Nelson, born ca. 1821
William Nelson, born ca. 1824
Robert Nelson, born January 21, 1825
Easter Nelson, born ca. 1826
Elizabeth Nelson, born ca. 1828
It's possible George Nelson was dead by 1837, but nothing is known about when his wife, Elizabeth died. Some records indicate George Nelson's wife was Elizabeth "Corder", but how this name fits into the picture is not known. Perhaps Elizabeth Sweat was married previously to a man named "Corder". I am interested in contact with fellow researchers on this line.
